WELCOME TO KNOX
(Formerly Edenburg Borough)
Knox Borough is a thriving community that still maintains a Main Street with shops, hair boutiques, shopping, services, and eateries. It all began around 1840 with J.G. Mendenhall purchasing the first of the farms in the area. As oil became abundant in the area, Edenburg grew quickly adding hotels, saloons, a bank, a drug store, a general store, shops, and many new homes. It had also suffered losses with six major fires in the area in the late 1800’s. J.M. Gifford started the first paper in Edenburg in 1876, under the title of The Edenburg Daily Herald. This was the first daily published in Clarion county. With its rich history and its link to Sebastian (Boss) Buck, the annual Horsethief Days was started in Edenburg (Knox) and continues today.
Today Knox is a great community with many of its residents grew up and still live in the area. It boasts a Main Street with shops, food, and services. It also has its own schools conveniently located for parents to have easy access to school and sporting events. Knox has the summer Horsethief Days event, plus the Once Upon a Christmas & Christmas in the Country Events for the holidays.
